For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by confessing with your mouth that you are saved. Romans 10:9-10
Delesprie has taken artistic license by combining two themes in the Bible in this statue: the fact that Jesus died for our sins, and that He was resurrected, giving us hope for eternal life with Him. This is truly a victory for a world suffering from the effects of sin and death.
Depicted in this sculpture is a rugged cross that has been shattered after the earthquake, when Jesus crossed over into Paradise. The cross is a paradox, symbolizing mankind’s brokenness, pain, suffering, and death, as well as hope, faith, a new beginning, and the promise of eternal life.
Jesus willingly surrendered His life as He prepared to ascend into Heaven. By His sinless life and sacrificial death, Jesus created the only way back to God. What Satan meant for evil, initiated the most glorious moment ever recorded.
There is a Christian phrase, “We are under the cross,” which means we are saved by Jesus’ work on the cross. The small people under the cross are positioned at the focal point of their faith. On the backside of the cross appears the gates of Heaven.
